Lovely park with relatively secluded camping options right on the Potomac River. Love it.
Great walking trails to the river. A good hike and distance. Nice visitors center. Friendly people.
This is a very nice and smoothly operated state park. The staff is very knowledgeable. Take the time to visit if you want to take your family to a quiet yet fun place!
Great place for easy to moderate hikes of varying distances. Perfect if you want to take a leisurely stroll the woods or something a little more strenuous.
Went with the family on a whim to a Monarch butterfly capture and tagging experience held by the staff at the State Park. To be honest, we kind of expected the entire experience to be pretty low budget as there was no admission fee. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the entire experience with the ranger running the class being incredibly well prepared, even including him bringing Monarch butterflies of all stages he had bred with him to show the kids. We made up half of the group there, so the kids received a ton of attention, being taught how to catch butterflies in nets, Monarch life cycles and migratory patterns, being proclaimed "citizen scientists" after tagging the wings of a Monarch for Monarch migration tracking, and even getting pictures with butterflies taking off off of their noses. The park is beautiful, staff is great, miles of trails down to the Potomac River, will definitely be going back.
